North American Market Compliance

For both USA and Canada:

The Underwriters Laboratories UL mark is a friendly nod to products that are designed and approved for the US market, showing they've met specific safety standards. The C-UL-US mark means these products are in line with UL’s Listing and Follow-Up Service for both Canada and the United States. Products with Canadian marks have been checked against Canadian safety standards, which might be a bit different from those in the U.S. A combination mark means the product meets both Canadian and U.S. requirements, so you’re covered on both sides!

  • UL791 - Standard for Residential Incinerators
  • UL791-CRD - Standard for Residential Incinerators
  • CSA 5.2-1971 (R2019) - Gas-Fired Waterless Toilets
  • CSA C22.2 No. 64-10 (R2014) - Household Cooking and Liquid-Heating Appliances, Includes Update No. 1 (2013), Update No. 2 (2016)

For the USA market only:

NSF accredited third-party certification gives everyone involved—whether you're in the industry, a regulator, a user, or just part of the general public—peace of mind that a certified product, material, component, or service meets the necessary technical standards.

  • NSF P157 - Electrical Incinerating Toilets - Health and Sanitization in US.

What's Left Over in the Ash Container?

The leftover waste, commonly referred to as "ashes," will typically contain a combination of residue, salts, and minerals. This composition often results in a texture that appears somewhat hard and crystallized. Ideally, when you examine the ashes, you should not observe any remnants of paper or flaky bits of unburned waste. Instead, the ashes should present a uniform blend of white and dark grey hues, indicating a thorough incineration process. However, if you happen to notice larger chunks of black, unburned waste, or detect any moisture or paper remnants when you empty the toilet, it is advisable to initiate another incineration cycle. This should be done without adding any additional paper or water to ensure complete combustion.

Once the ashes are fully incinerated, they can be safely disposed of in regular household garbage. This disposal method is entirely acceptable, provided that the ash is thoroughly incinerated, ensuring it poses no environmental or health risks.

Developing Your Maintenance Routine

Incineration toilets are a relatively recent innovation in North America, and as such, users may encounter some initial challenges. Unlike traditional plumbing systems, these toilets incorporate electronic, metallic, and other components that are subject to wear and tear.

Implementing effective maintenance routines can significantly reduce operating costs, minimize product wear and help with waste safety. It is highly recommended that users adhere to the maintenance guidelines provided in the manual.

  • Empty the toilet frequently. Do not base your use on the maximum limit of the appliance.
  • Always clean the ash container and insert it when emptied.
  • Always perform the steam cleaning preferably after each emptying and washing of the ash container. Once per day, or at least weekly depending on usage.
  • Always observe the end result characteristics when emptying the toilet. Deviations in the end result may indicate the need for maintenance, installation adjustments or service.
